What Does the Jetter Do?

An electric eel pokes a hole through a blockage. A jetter cleans the whole pipe.

  • Roots that have grown through joints, cut and flushed rather than left hanging
  • Kitchen and laundry fat that has set hard on the pipe wall
  • Sludge and silt sitting in the bottom of stormwater pipes
  • Debris packed behind a partial blockage that an eel would push straight past

The jetter also scours the pipe wall itself, so the line comes back to near-new internal diameter instead of running at half capacity with the next load of paper waiting to catch.

How Does the Jetting Run Work?

  1. 01

    Camera first

Filming shows the blockage and the pipe type, and the pressure is chosen from that.

  2. 02

    The jetter goes in

Rear-facing jets on the nozzle pull the hose up the pipe while they scour the walls.

  3. 03

    Water alone, no chemicals

Nothing corrosive touches your pipes, and the runoff goes where it should, down the line.

  4. 04

    Camera again before pack-up

A second filmed pass lets you compare the pipe before and after. Where it reveals a cracked length that roots keep entering, pipe relining can seal it with no trench.

What Sets the Figure on a Jetting Job?

  • The length of the line, since the nozzle has to travel further on long rear-yard runs
  • How many access points are usable, or whether the pipe locator has to find a buried one first
  • What the camera showed, because a line full of roots takes longer to clear than a greasy kitchen pipe
  • The after-hours rate if the booking falls on a weekend or late night, quoted before anyone sets out

Where the Jetter Earns Its Keep Around Here

The older estate blocks grow their own drain problems

Ashtonfield's first blocks date from the late 1980s, and their garden trees are now big enough to send roots through the reactive clay to the sewer. Every joint that ground movement has opened is a way in, and the jetter cuts that growth back to the pipe wall.

The newer infill has younger pipes, not cleaner ones

Townhouses and dual-occupancy pairs from the 2000s onward still gather grease in their kitchen lines. For sewers that roots invade again and again, our tree root removal work goes beyond a single clear.

When we're not the right call

water pressure cannot rebuild a pipe that has caved in, so a collapsed length needs digging out or relining, and the footage shows which. A blockage in the street sewer beyond your boundary is Hunter Water's pipe to clear.

Jetting Questions We Get on the Phone

Will jetting damage the older pipes in Ashtonfield homes?

No. We film the pipe before the nozzle goes in, then dial the pressure to what we see: an older cracked clay joint gets a softer setting than a sound PVC run, so the pipe is cleaned rather than stressed.

How long does a jetting clear take on an Ashtonfield block?

One line with an open access point is a short booking, filming included. A run the full length of a deep back garden, or one where the locator has to hunt for a buried opening, takes longer, and the fixed figure reflects that.

Does jetting stop the roots coming back?

It removes every root inside the pipe, but a cracked joint lets new growth back in. When the after-clear footage shows that crack, a liner can close it with no trench.

Is jetting better than drain chemicals from the hardware store?

Yes. Store-bought chemicals work slowly on the surface of a choke and leave roots and deeper sludge untouched. Water under pressure cleans the entire bore, and you see the filmed result before we leave.
